Regulatory Framework of MFIs

Microfinance sector is supported by a Regulatory Framework that aims to assist the growth and development of Microfinance Institutions. IMFs are licensed and supervised as microfinance institutions by the Central Bank of Kosovo (CBK). They report on monthly and quarterly basis to the CBK, and also submit the annual audited financial statements.

The main instruments governing the MFIs financial activities are the Law on Banks, Microfinance Institutions and Non-Bank Financial Institutions and many Regulations from the CBK.

Since the vast majority of MFIs in Kosovo have NGO status, they are regulated with the Law on Freedom of Association in Non-governmental Organisations. And, like any other NGO, MFIs also submit the annual reports at the NGO Office at the Ministry of Public Administration.
